BARR TRAIL
Barr Trail is a classic Colorado hike that begins in Manitou Springs and climbs steadily up to the summit of Pikes Peak, reaching over 14,000 ft. It is a challenging 13-mile trail that offers stunning mountain scenery and a rewarding experience for experienced hikers.
THE INCLINE
The Manitou Incline is an extremely steep trail near the base of Barr Trail. It provides a rapid ascent with breathtaking views and is popular among hikers seeking a short but intense climb. Many use it to reach higher elevations quickly and then descend via Barr Trail.
BARR CAMP
Located about halfway up Barr Trail, Barr Camp provides a resting point and overnight shelter for hikers. The historic camp offers cabins and bunkhouses and is perfect for hikers who want to split the climb over multiple days and acclimatize to the elevation.
THE A-FRAME
The A-Frame shelter sits near the timberline and provides hikers with a last resting point before the final ascent. Above this point, the environment becomes rocky and exposed, so the shelter is an important safety and rest area.
GOLDEN STEPS
The final stretch to the summit features steep switchbacks known as the Golden Steps. This challenging section requires careful footing and preparation but rewards hikers with spectacular views as they near the top of Pikes Peak.
THE SUMMIT
Reaching the summit of Pikes Peak marks the completion of the Barr Trail climb. The summit provides panoramic views, a historic building, and a sense of accomplishment. Weather can change rapidly, so hikers should be prepared for wind, cold, and sudden storms.
